When Captain Brendan Thomson joined the Garrison forty years ago, the amalgamation of the services had yet to happen. Had the old system still been in place Captain Thomson (now aged 58) would have become a Colonel. He’s held the command of a number of ships over his career and is now based at Lancaster HQ as the commanding officer of the entire Wolfland Garrison.
In the picture, he’s wearing his No. 5 Mess Dress kit which is derived from the uniform of the now defunct Royal Marines. He has secondary duties too, as a lay member of the Wolfland Chamber (the government) and hence he also has a desk in the Town Hall where the Chamber is based. He would rather be on the base though where his horse Samson is close at hand.
More of a figurehead these days than an active member of the military, he’s looking forward to his retirement and is hoping to buy a vineyard in Eryri. Captain Thomson and Mrs Gillian (Jill) Thomson are keen Scrabble players, and also belong to the Crown Green Bowls Club which is conveniently situated on the edge of the married quarters just outside the base.
