The amalgamation of the traditional army and naval services has led to a mix of the former terms and ranks. There is no longer an air force, because there are no longer any conventional aircraft. A unified rank structure was established in order to avoid any confusion between the naval rank of Captain and the army rank of Captain.

In 2450AD all genders can serve in the Garrison at all levels. In the military, as with much of society in general, terms like “servicemen” and “workmen” are now non-gender specific (a bit like “mankind”) and can be applied to everyone whether male, female or non-binary. There is no gender discrimination of old, and nobody cares and nobody is surprised if your boss or your colleague is male, female or non-binary.
Flag Officers
- The Flag Officer ranks no longer exist, no more generals or admirals!
Senior Officers
- Captain not Colonel
- Commander not Lieutenant Colonel
- Major
Junior Officers
- The rank of Captain no longer exists
- Lieutenant
- Second Lieutenant
Lower ranks
For the lower ranks, the formal rank structure has been abolished. Whether serving on land or at sea, everyone is referred to as a Marine.
Nothing is actually documented, although there is a widely understood, basic command structure. Some sections or platoons may be led by a non commissioned officer. For the sake of clarity, a team leader such as this is referred to with the term “Senior Marine”. It’s more a role than a rank, but it feels and sounds like a rank to newcomers when they first join the Garrison.
Footnote
The armed services of the territories surrounding Wolfland have all adopted the system of one unified military service, and one unified rank structure.
They did so on different dates, so some older expressions are still used, particularly by some retired personnel.
