Miss Gibson

A watercolour painting of a 73 year old lady with short golden blonde curly hair with traces of grey. Mel Gibson lives in a retirement home and suffers from dementia. Her eyes are brown and she has a confused expression. She is wearing a navy blue dress with a simple printed pattern of white leaves. She wears a necklace which is a single line of pearls, but no earrings. The image is labelled MissGibson.

Melanie (Mel) Gibson is 73 years old and has never married. Along with about 30 other retirees she now lives in the Trafalgar Wing of the Noble Coliseum. She has made friends with The Colonel and they get along well in spite of the fact that she suffers from dementia.

She is a great fan of horoscopes, and delights in sharing gossip with The Colonel and with a thirteen year old orphan nicknamed ClaireVoyant. It seems that the mystic in The Lancastrian called CelesteEmbrace is connected with this group, all of whom live in the Noble Coliseum.

Miss Gibson’s favourite chairs in the Garden Room and the Conservatory are the ones that overlook the ornamental garden where she can watch the activity around the bird table. She makes up stories, imagining that the birds are other residents of the Coliseum. However, Miss Gibson is not fond of the crayon munchers, the term she uses for all the younger orphans, and the stories are not always happy ones. Miss Gibson does like some of the teenagers, people like ClaireVoyant and anyone who can follow the rules of the quiet lounge, and chat calmly and sensibly.
